The genome, or our genetic makeup, provides the code to our life. At HN, we don’t just evaluate protein coding genes within that code; we sequence every nucleotide in the entire genome. This allows us to detect variants that may contribute to conditions, such as cancer and heart disease, beyond protein coding regions – including gene regulatory regions and gene modifiers.
Your genome, however, is not the only determinant of your phenotype – your observable physical traits. Lifestyle factors can also influence our health. These articles will introduce you to some of the terminology used when speaking about genomics. We encourage you to review the articles prior to your Health Nucleus Assessment to help you better understand your personalized health reports.
